BC Nurses' Union (BCNU)

Adriane Gear is president of the British Columbia Nurses’ Union (BCNU), representing over 48,000 members working in acute, long-term care, and community-based care settings including public health. A proud advocate for quality, safe patient care, Adriane has been active with BCNU since 2004, regularly drawing on her expertise as a registered nurse to help inform and influence policy decisions with all levels of government, including a successful lobby to have nurses included under legislation that acknowledges the nursing profession as being a designation presumed to be suffering when filing claims of post-traumatic stress disorder. Because of this work, nurses are no longer required to prove their mental injury, following other industries like law enforcement and fire safety, and are presumed to be affected.

Adriane has held many positions at the BCNU including executive councillor for occupational health and safety and mental health from 2015 to 2020, and vice president of the union in 2022.

Adriane represents the Nurses’ Bargaining Association on SWITCH BC’s Board of Directors.
