At the Coming Together to Address Staff and Provider Psychological Health and Wellness: A Provincial Summit, SWITCH BC CEO Victoria Schmid recognized the fundamental importance of connection, of people helping people, and how restoring humanity in healthcare can strengthen the sector. Victoria also acknowledged the system was fragile before the pandemic began and there has been little time or space subsequently to properly debrief. Above all, Victoria stressed we must give people in healthcare autonomy over decisions wherever possible; and recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of B.C.’s health care teams under the most demanding circumstances – pandemic, drug poisoning crisis, and climate disasters.
