SWITCH BC connects HEU members with health and safety resources at annual convention

Events

SWITCH BC met with many Hospital Employees’ Union (HEU) delegates who stopped by our information booth on October 22 and 23 during HEU’s 34th biennial convention in Vancouver. In total, 800 members attended the convention from across the province, including care aids, laboratory technicians, cooks and licensed practical nurses (LPN). SWITCH BC staff shared information and resources with hundreds of HEU members about some of our current projects and programs, including the OHS Resource Centre.

Many attendees who spoke to us said they were members of their Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees (JOHSC) and were interested in learning more about this committee management platform. Other attendees shared their challenges with preventing strains and sprains on the job and also referred to ongoing challenges with psychological safety at work.

SWITCH BC’s Technical Advisory Committee member Georgina Hackett stopped by to say hello to the team before returning to the week-long event. HEU represents 60,000 hospital and long-term care workers in B.C.
