Connecting with BCGEU members at OHS Conference 2025

Events

BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) held their annual occupational health and safety conference for Component 4 – Health Services members in Prince George this September. SWITCH BC was able to connect with OHS leaders, OHS stewards, union members, and health staff mainly from the North and Interior regions.

The focus of this event was to promote and bring awareness to the OHS Resource Centre, a digital platform for joint occupational health and safety committees (JOHSC) that stores minutes, schedules meetings, and provides metrics, which has been fully implemented at Providence Health Care and Vancouver Coastal Health.

SWITCH BC was also able to use this time to promote the Psychological Health and Safety (PHS) Program which is actively collaborating with OHS leaders and workers to develop JOHSC-specific PHS resources. The PHS team will be looking for committees interested in piloting the resources in the future, check out the new program page to learn more.

People that visited the booth talked about the need for occupational health and safety and psychological health and safety supports and resources to bring into their workplace and JOHSCs.

We would like to thank Mahen Ramdharry, Vice President of BCGEU’s Compenet 4 – Health Services, for stopping by our booth and sharing some kind words about our work with community physicians and updating the Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum. Thank you also to Wendy Mah, BCGEU OHS Officer and SWITCH BC TAC member, for inviting us to this event.
