Violence Prevention and the impact of microlearning

News and Media Centre  SWITCH BC News

“Very informative and beneficial for staff.”

That’s how a Violence Prevention Specialist at our Board partner Vancouver Coastal Health recently described our violence prevention microlearning resources. The specialist highlighted their value in supporting ongoing awareness, education, and prevention-focused learning and asked if they could share. We responded with an enthusiastic yes! And we encourage you to check them out and use them too!

Feedback like this matters.

Experts, advisors, and health workers helped shape our recently updated 3.5-hour violence prevention eLearning course, offered through health authorities. The course provides essential, mandatory training for health workers across the system. Built with realistic scenarios and practical guidance, it provides workers with the skills they need to recognize, prevent, and respond to workplace violence.

To build on that strong foundation, we saw an opportunity to make key lessons publicly available on our website.

Working closely with our violence prevention leads, our communications team transformed core content from the eLearning course into short, focused microlearning resources. Video scenarios were adapted into quick, accessible clips, and key concepts were turned into posters and other shareable tools to be used as quick reminders and in team huddles and safety meetings.

The goal was to make important learning more visible, more accessible, and easier to apply day-to-day.

For SWITCH BC this kind of feedback signals we’re on the right track. Extending the reach of this training in practical ways is a meaningful step forward.

Microlearning doesn’t replace the eLearning course – it strengthens it. It keeps key violence prevention messages front of mind, reinforces skills over time, and helps translate knowledge into action.
