Expanded Funding, Tools, and Support for Community Physicians in B.C.

The Community Physician Health and Safety program is expanding with renewed funding from Doctors of BC and the Ministry of Health through the Physician Main Agreement (PMA).

The $5.1 million investment over three years will help more physicians, specialists, and clinic staff create safer and healthier workplaces. The funding will expand free, confidential support, including in-person clinic assessments delivered by Community Physician Health and Safety Advisors across B.C.

During a clinic assessment, advisors work with teams to identify workplace health and safety risks and provide practical recommendations, tools, and resources that can be tailored to each clinic’s needs.

The renewed investment also expands and improves the Build Your Program website, giving physicians and their teams easier access to health and safety resources. The updated website includes more ready-to-use templates, checklists, videos, and step-by-step guidance to help clinics build a workplace health and safety program that works for their team.

Whether a clinic is large, small, urban, or rural, the resources can be adapted to support its unique needs.

Physicians and clinic staff can complete online learning topics, violence prevention, emergency preparedness, infection prevention and control, and ergonomics at their own pace. When they’ve finished all of the topics, they will have a robust health and safety program that supports clinic staff and patients and receive a Certificate of Completion.

CPHS by the numbers from July 2023 to July 2026:

  • 125 clinic assessments
  • 820 physicians and 1,059 medical staff supported
  • 4,768 Build Your Program website visits
